I am blessed to have amazing in-laws. Seriously. You often hear nightmare or complaining stories about in-laws, but when I married into the Johnson family I got a second incredible set of parents, siblings, their spouses, and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews.

I'd love to live next door to Mike and Sally and their family, but we live 11 hours away from each other.  I was able to fly to Phoenix to take my new nephew's pictures and spend time with them for the day.  Baby Davis made me work for every picture.  He was a bit fussy and only fell into a deep sleep for about twenty minutes, but that just meant I got to spend the entire afternoon snuggling him.  Can you believe his thick, dark hair? All of his siblings had at least this much hair when they were born. In fact, since these were taken Davis has already had his first hair cut. Davis is one lucky baby to join this family full of brothers and sisters who love him so much as well as great parents.

I took advantage of my husband being out of school for the summer, and am taking a month long newborn photography class.  It has been intense.  I am learning a ton, and am loving every minute of it!

While visiting Cedar City I was able to practice what I've been learning and took pictures of my friends' family and their two week old newborn.  I love this family.  They are some of my best friends, and are so photogenic and fun to photograph. Isn't it fun that their children have such different hair? A red head, a blonde, and now a dark headed baby. And they're all adorable!  Baby John was a dream sleeper for me, so snuggly and sweet. This was definitely one of my favorite sessions. Enjoy your pictures David and Melissa!

Baby Zedek

I took these pictures when Zedek was only four days old.  Now he's five months old!  I've been a blogger slacker.  It's so fun to look at these pictures again now that he's gotten bigger though, because instead of a dark red fuzzy mohawk, he has almost transparent blonde hair.  Now he's grown so much and is smiley, interactive and trying to crawl.  It's amazing how fast these little miracles grow and change.  My kids and I love having Zedek live close by and being able to play with him so often.
Zedek's mom made the cute minion beanie, and her cousin made the elephant hat.  I think they turned out so cute, and such a fun addition to his pictures!

I was especially excited to meet and snuggle this little guy, because he's my nephew!  It took some finagling for my sister and I to get together since we're both in the middle of moving, but I'm so glad I was able to spend a few hours with her and Brayden. This little boy is super lucky he got to come to this family. He has some pretty awesome parents...(and aunt of course!)

I'm so excited! I just found out this self-portrait with my little girl was featured on My Four Hens Photography!   I have been participating in M4Hs Project 52, where photographers submit photos each week based around a set theme.  This particular theme was "light". You can go here to see all the images that were featured.

This has to be one of my favorite sessions! My sister-in-law Kristi has been going to school in Virginia, so while we were all in Phoenix for Christmas and her sister's wedding I was able to take their engagement pictures.  We went to the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ. We only walked through a part of it but there are tons of little trails, a lake, a park and lots of desert plants.  Our whole session was fun and relaxed, we had great light to work with, and Kristi and Spencer are so stinkin' cute together! I also used my ColorRight white balance disk throughout the session and this made editing a breeze. I need to use that more consistently. :) Congratulations you two!

Steve and my sister-in-law Melissa were married just a couple of days after Christmas.  We drove down to Phoenix in time to take some part in the reception preparation, for me to take their pre-wedding pictures, and of course to join in their wedding day. Everything was beautiful and perfect, especially Melissa.  She and Steve are so happy, and we're happy to have him as part of our family--he fits right in, and has from the first time we met him.

We took their pictures at the Mesa Temple. I felt so happy to have green grass and warm weather instead of snow and freezing temperatures to shoot in.  Plus we got to see the amazing Christmas lights as we were finishing up. Melissa had given Steve a top hat for Christmas and we had a lot of fun with it. Congratulations Melissa and Steve!
We had so much fun with the top hat!  Not just anybody can pull one off, but I loved it on Steve.
